Since 2004 on New Year's Eve the London Eye has become a focal point for London's marking of midnight, the event is produced by Jack Morton Worldwide. Photos below by Durham Marenghi and above by Kimbolton courtesy of Jack Morton Worldwide.
Stage Electrics supply the VL3500 washes in the pods and the Syncrolite Searchlights and Arena Colors on the pontoon to illuminate the eye, backlight is created by 10 Syncrolite SXL 7/3. The large clock countdown on the Shell building is formed with 14 Clay Paky Alpha Beam 700.
The spectacular firework display was originally designed by Christophe Berthonneau of GroupeF and since 2010 has been designed by Darryl Fleming of Kimbolton Fireworks, the large scale projection for the first five years was supplied by the Projection Studio.
Durham and Lighting Design Associate Paul Cook create the lighting of the wheel and it's integration into the fireworks display, the colours and dynamics of the lighting programme are precisely synchronised with those of the fireworks.
The Event is broadcast live by the BBC at midnight and is featured in news reports around the world alongside the Sydney Harbour and New York Times Square celebrations.
